MINUTES FROM MARCH 10, 2010
The meeting opened at 7:05 p.m. The minutes from the February meeting were approved as read with a motion by Tom Boeding and seconded by Mickey Bahr.
The following announcements were made: There will be a severe weather seminar on March 15th at KCK Community College at 7:00 p.m. The F.L. Schlagle Library at Wyandotte County Lake has all kinds of events for kids, especially during spring break next week. They have a special event every third Saturday of the month. CABA is sponsoring their David Alvarado Scholarship Fund Dinner and Dance this Saturday, March 13th. See Marty Thoennes for tickets. There is free tax preparation help at Catholic Charities and other areas in the City. Contact Patty for more information. Donnie Smith from CHWC mentioned that there is currently a scam going on regarding mortgage foreclosures and asks people to be aware of them. You can contact CHWC for more information. Bob Sixta brought copies of articles from the KC Business Journal highlighting KCK growth and new businesses. Bill Mahoney announced that the TOP OF
THE MORNING CLUB will have their annual (and only) meeting this Friday, March 12th at St. Anthony’s.
Officer Ruben Rodriguez was present and gave some updates on activities in the area. He noted that there is a new head of Community Policing---Capt. Victor Webb, so he was not sure of any changes in the months to come. As of now he is still our community police officer.
Susan Keim presented a neighborhood survey and all present filled one out. She is working on her doctorate and this survey was part of her work.
Commissioner Bill Miller started off the presentation on the proposed sales tax increase election which will be held on April 13th. Janet Leverich from the Administrator’s office presented a power point explaining the need for the increase. The proposed increase will be 3/8 cent. Also present representing the UG were Craig Duke from the Fire Dept. and Kevin Steele from the Police Dept. Clayton Hunter, who is part of a citizens group advocating the increase was also present with some materials. They took questions and pointed out that this increase is needed to keep the Fire and Police Dept. at working strength as well as to maintain our infrastructure (street repairs, etc).
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, April 21, 2010, which is a change from our normal meeting time. This is due to a conflict with the Parish Center.
