MINUTES FROM MAY 12, 2010
The meeting opened at 7:10 p.m. Because the weather was bad, David Allen from the BPU started the meeting with his presentation. He gave a very good and quick overview of what we as homeowners can do to save energy and lower our BPU bills. He handed out very useful information and left more for people who were unable to come to the meeting.
The minutes from the April meeting were approved with a motion by Mickey Bahr and seconded by Susan Carroll.
The following announcements were made: The St. Peter’s Fall Festival Committee is sponsoring a fundraiser at Wheat Sate Pizza on Thursday, May 20th from 4-8 p.m. Studio 804 is hosting an open house on Saturday, May 15th from 10-3 at 32 South 16th Street. Randy Balliett passed along information from the gas company that said the lines will be finished in about two to three weeks as they are a little behind on their projected completion time.
Steve Curtis is the new program director working directly with our neighborhood from CHWC. He announced a Fun Fiesta night at Waterway Park on Tuesday, June 8th from 5-8 p.m. as part of NeighborWorks Week. He also has several ideas on how to get kids involved in our area doing something constructive with their talents (instead of graffiti). Patty mentioned that we will again receive a $300.00 grant from CHWC and hopefully use this for plants for our community garden.
Captain Victor Webb, head of Community Policing spoke briefly and brought up our traffic calming issues. He said he has had a lot of complaints about our area, but agreed that he needed to sit down with Patty and discuss our plan further to understand better what is going on. Officer Ruben Rodriguez was also present and advised that 3 youths had been arrested for graffiti and they think they are largely responsible for what has been going on in our area.
The topic of our meeting was “What I don’t like about my neighborhood”. The concensus was dogs running loose, trash in yards, street lights covered by trees, and the curbs and sidewalk issue. Patty said she would contact UG officials and try and get some questions answered by the next meeting. Marty Thoennes from CABA thought that all neighborhood groups need to work together on problems and hopefully we can come up with some good solutions to our problems.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 9, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral Parish Center.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
