MINUTES FROM OCTOBER 13, 2010

The meeting opened at 7:05 p.m. The minutes from the September 8th meeting were approved as read with a motion by Mickey Bahr and seconded by Tom Lally.

The following announcements were made. Marty Thoennes from CABA sent a word of thanks to the Mahoneys for participating in the CABA parade on September 11th. Culvers at Village West is sponsoring an event to benefit PACES from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 14th. 10% of all proceeds will go to the PACES program. The community policing staff is sponsoring the VIALS of LIFE program. If anyone is interested, please contact Patty for a packet. There will be a family 5k/dog jog on Saturday, October 16th at Wyandotte High School. All are invited to participate. Patty reported that the meat market at 14th & Orville is under new ownership, but has not opened up yet. She also reported that she has submitted a grant to Liveable Neighborhoods/Community Policing for funds to keep the website going and for expenses of advertising, postage and the fees required by the Secretary of State for our organization.

Capt. Toledo from the East Patrol Division gave us some statistics on crimes in our area for the past month. Most all categories were down, except there has been a many problems in the 22nd & Sandusky and Orville areas. Arrests however have been made. He did report that he is moving to Traffic, so there will be a new Captain covering our area.

Steve Curtis from CHWC reported that all are invited to CHWC at 14th & Central every Friday morning from 8-10 a.m. for Coffee. He reported that their engineer had examined the building at 14th & Orville currently owned by George Breidenthal, and it is structurally sound. They estimate costs for repairs at around $200,000.00. We still need to decide if we want to proceed with rehabbing this building for the community, or proceed with tearing it down. More information will follow. Steve reported that he had a group of kids from Pembroke work on the community garden, cleaning up weeds. He is looking at some grants to buy a bench and more plants.

Mollie Hill reported plans for Halloween from their committee. They have had some fundraisers and raised $339.00 from the bake sale. This will take care of two off duty KCK police officers they have hired for Halloween night. Parking will still be available at St. Peter’s after the 5:00 Mass and at Donnelly College. They will give out prizes for best costumes and best decorated houses. They will also sell pop and hot dogs in the 600-700 blocks of 17th Streets. Every block is responsible for obtaining permits to block off their streets if they so desire. Mollie had the petition forms available. The cost is $10.00 and you turn them into the Traffic Engineering Dept. at City Hall.

The next meeting is scheduled for November 10, 2010.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
