MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 10, 2010 The meeting opened at 7:05 p.m. The minutes from the October 13, 2010 meeting were approved with a motion by Mary Clevenger and seconded by Mary Sue Sixta. The following announcements were made: We received a grant from Community Policing/Liveable Neighborhoods for the requested $530.00. We will use this for the ad in the St. Peter’s bulletin again this year as well as paying for our website. St. Peter’s is sponsoring Bingo night on Saturday, November 13th at 5:00 p.m. There will be a Holiday Craft Show at Eisenhower Center on November 20th. Recycling Day is also November 20th at the F.L.Schlagle Library. There will also be an electronic reycyling day at the Re-Store on November 20th. There will be Breakfast with Santa at the Armourdale Recreation Center on Saturday November 27th from 7-11 a.m. You can obtain burn permits only until November 15th. Major Tyrone Garner and Capt. Robert Angell were present from East Patrol Division. Major Garner is in charge of our area after moving from West Patrol. He told us what his goals are for the area, and how he will go about accomplishing them. Officer Ruben Rodriguez was also present and talked about the ongoing graffiti problem. Steve Curtis gave us some updates from Community Housing of Wyandotte County. He said that negotiations were still going on with George Breidenthal to acquire the building at 14th & Orville, but things don’t look too promising. He still has a Court case pending and the building is currently on the UG’s demolition list. Susie George gave a report from the Halloween Committee. They felt that overall the event was very successful as over 2000 kids came through the neighborhood without any problems. However, they have decided to disband the committee because of complaints from neighbors. They do hope that the event can be continued every year because people feel that this is a safe place to come and trick or treat. Patty indicated that perhaps next year as part of our grant application we can request funds for security. Most of the expenses from this year’s event were out-of-pocket from the committee members. We thank them for all of their hard work. We will be decorating a Christmas tree again this year at City Hall and the Lighting Ceremony and Awards will be on Friday November 19th. Any volunteers to help are welcome. Patty stated that her goals for next years will be to do a final traffic calming survey. The UG engineer has stated that we need to make this plan final. She will have a survey passed out to neighbors sometime at the beginning of the year. We also need to make a final decision on the building at 14th & Orville. We also will work on reducing the size of our neighborhood group by changing the boundaries. This has to be done by a vote to change the bylaws. Patty will prepare the notice and pass out to residents also after the first of the year. She will also be handing out the “Did you know” fact sheet that she has prepared. She also asked for any volunteers to help out with the leadership of our group. There will be no meetings in December or January. The next meeting will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. |
