There will be a Rain Garden Design, Construction, Installation and Maintenance Class on Sept. 24th at the Powell Center in Mission. Steve Curtis is holding another photography class on September 15th. The UG is looking for our opinion on a sales tax survey they are conducting. To participate, go online to their website. We donated $20.00 to Neighborhood Leaders for a luncheon honoring the COPPS officers.
Patty introduced Fr. Harry Schneider, the new pastor at St. Peter’s and thanked him for allowing us to continue to hold our meetings in the parish center. Our meeting was also attended by Capt. Michael Kobe and Sgt. Allen and Officer S. Smith from the East Patrol Division, as well as Officer Ruben Rodriguez from Community Policing. They brought us up to date on crimes in the area. Officer Smith reported that it is a pleasure to work in our neighborhood. Capt. Kobe reported that we just received a grant for $2 million for 12 new police officers. There was some discussion about problems on the church parking lot and in the front of the church and how this was handled. Everyone was appreciative of the quick response of the police dept. and how they are continuing to patrol our area.
Mollie Hill and Caroline Metzger gave us an update on the work of the Halloween Committee. They are working on obtaining parking at St. Peter’s and at Donnelly. They are also working on street closings, however there could be some problems closing all of the streets intended. There is a fundraiser at WheatState Pizza on Sat. Sept. 12th. 15% of all proceeds will go to the committee. Final plans will be presented at the October 14th CNA meeting.
We are still trying to get the Community Garden going, however with not much success. There is tentatively a plan for volunteers from Procter & Gamble to come in and help build a fence.
Dave Goldblatt reported a problem with a neighbor’s garage on 16th and asked for help in getting this resolved. He also announced that there will be a blood drive at United Trinity Methodist Church on Saturday, September 26th.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cathedral Parish Center.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
