MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 11,2009

The meeting opened at 7:05 p.m. The minutes from the October 14, 2009 meeting were approved with a motion by Bob Sixta and seconded by Mary Clevenger.

The following announcements were made. Patty has attended the East Patrol Advisory Board meeting and the Liveable Neighbhorhoods meetings. She gets valuable information for our group from both meetings. There will be an electronic recycling event at the Habitat for Humanity Restore on Saturday November 14th.
The annual follow the dottes art walk will be Friday, November 13th. Breit’s 7th anniversary party is also Friday, November 13th. There will be a John Eger memorial fundraiser at WheatState Pizza also on the 13th. There will be a holiday craft sale at Eisenhower School on Saturday, November 21st. There are many volunteer opportunities for the upcoming holiday season from United Way. CHWC is beginning to build affordable housing at the old Bethany site. Open burning is still allowed but only until November 15th.

Officer Ruben Rodriguez was in attendance and reported on activity in the neighborhood. Graffiti continues to be a big problem. Captain Toledo from the East Patrol Division was also in attendance and said that a known F13 gang member lives at the house at 201 North 14th Street. They are looking for him presently, and hopefully with his capture, a lot of problems will go away from the area.

Mollie Hill and Susie George gave a final report from the Halloween committee. Overall, the night was a great success and things went smoothly. With the grants received and personal donations they were able to carry out their plan and hopefully next year will be even more organized. They estimated 2000 kids came to the 17th street blocks during the evening.

Rich Davis and Patty purchased $895.00 worth of fencing materials and mulch for the community garden. Rich will store the items and begin work on the fence in the spring time.

A new grant application has been submitted. We are asking for funds to continue our website, as well as placing an ad in the church bulletin and purchasing some signs to put up around the neighborhood on the week of our meetings.
The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held on November 20th at City Hall. We are trying to come up with a theme. Some suggested were Tinker Bell or a Disney theme and also an idea presented was to use all of the activities of our neighborhood as a theme. Suggestions were the 17th St. barbeque, the lighting ceremony, all of the schools and churches in the area, and the number of UG employees that live in our area.

Patty asked what people wanted as far as topics for meetings next year. One suggestion was having Officer Jeff Brownlee from the KCKPD come and give his presentations on gangs. Another idea was to have a rep from BPU come and talk about energy conservation. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome.

This is the last meeting for the year. Our next meeting will be February 10, 2010.

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
